Spiralogics International to host Spirathon in Kathmandu
Spiralogics International in partnership with Spiralogics Institute of Technology (SIT) is going to host a two-day appathon event with a slight twist in November. This event is titled “Spirathon” where a team consisting of 3 members will need to build a prototype application based on a social awareness theme. Professionals from the top IT companies will be judging the event and choosing the winners.
The Spirathon – #CodeForSociety is being hosted on the 18th and 19th of November, 2017. Out of the 122 who registered, 10 teams have been selected to compete in the main event. The teams were selected by the Team Leads of Spiralogics. The team was selected based on their idea and submission video. Top ten teams will be building a prototype application based on a social cause theme – a technology that aims to better the lives of the community around us. The team includes members from different IT colleges as well as freelancers. Each team will be given a mentor to guide them during the two days. They will not be teaching them how to code but will advise on any issues they may have. Mentors include programmers and software engineers from well-known IT companies such as Yomari and SPI.
Location
The event will be on November 18 and 19 at Spiralogics’ office in Shankamul Tower. Ten teams have been selected out of the 122 who registered. The judging panel so far includes Mr. Pravin Raj Joshi (CTO of Rooster Logic), Mr. Dipesh Karki (Software Engineer and Professor at KUSOM), Mr. Ranjan Shrestha (CEO of Real Time Solutions) and Mr. Saunak Ranjitkar (CTO of Spiralogics).
Prizes
The winning team will get a cash prize of Rs. 15,000, 100% scholarship to study a course of their choice in SIT and most importantly, an internship plus opportunity to work with Spiralogics International, a leading US-based software company. First and second runner-ups will receive a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5000 respectively per team.

The online registration was opened in September where they first announced the event of this kind on their website and social media accounts. To recognize the efforts each team has put in making their submission video, the company plans to give a ‘Viewer’s Choice Award’ to the team whose video gets the most number of likes and shares on Facebook. The videos have been uploaded to SIT’s official Facebook page. They will be counting the votes on November 17.
